Problem Statement
Online music discovery is increasingly shaped by algorithms that narrow user experience, reinforcing predictable recommendations and limiting meaningful exploration. As a result, opportunities for diverse discovery are limited. MIXED attempts to offer a different paradigm by prioritising individual curation and spontaneous encounters to support a more open, human-centred mode of discovery.
Prototype
The platform implements a “1-for-1 exchange” system. Users enter the website using a link or QR Code and can recommend a song. In return, receive a recommendation from someone else. This creates a chain of musical discovery from real people rather than algorithms. The prototype features a custom-built frontend, a lightweight backend to manage song exchanges, and a live deployment on a dedicated domain.
UI Features
Key UI features were designed to make the experience clearer, more responsive, and more seamless for users.
Mobile Responsive - Allow site to be more accessible and discoverable.
Error Checks - Error message on the mobile version is shortened for improved readability on smaller screens.
Transition - Loading screen transition allows for a smoother, more seamless user experience between pages.
